Supports Anime Producers

It works. I personally dont get any "black screens" that are mentioned here; since Im a member I dont have to deal with ads.

Though there are some anime that arent available on Crunchyroll, like Dragon Ball Z, all the anime they DO have is legal in the sense that anime producers have struck an agreement with Crunchyroll to host their anime.

At least on Crunchyroll I can support the anime industry, which I cant do by watching free (ads/membership/otherwise) anime on other sites.
